Christina ThrashWhen I started quilting, I followed patterns and found it easy to play with color because the design was already built in. In retirement I have taken art classes, plus my years of gardening have helped me develop an eye for color and design.
My favorite types of quilts are still scrappy quilts, wonky quilts, and improv quilts. Lately, I am drawn to abstraction and to solid colors, finding that focusing on color alone is refreshing. I still make bed quilts for my grandchildren but often they feel more like giant art quilts. The design process is what keeps my attention. I like the finished look of piecing, but for art quilts it is all about fusing. I mostly do machine quilting but lately, have come back to the element of hand stitching. |
